Plan the work before choosing materials

Begin with photos and measurements, then review the work, material choices and access. For a new or altered fence, establish the intended boundary and property-specific restrictions. For deck changes, identify whether drawings, approvals or permits are needed before purchasing materials. Requirements must be checked for the particular project.

Include any shed, gazebo or playset installation planned for the same area. Access and the order of work determine how the projects fit together.

What affects a fence or deck quote?

The size of the project is only one part of the scope. Existing damage, removal work, site access, material selection, changes in height or layout, and the number of gates, stairs or railings can all affect the work required. Explain any materials already purchased and whether removal or disposal is requested.

A useful quote should distinguish the work included from items that need further review. Confirm those details and availability before scheduling.

Common questions.

Can I ask about repairing only part of a fence or deck?

Yes. Identify the area you want repaired and provide photos of the surrounding structure. The appropriate scope depends on the condition of both the damaged section and its supports.

Do I need exact measurements to make the first call?

Approximate measurements are enough for an initial discussion. Final measurements and site conditions need to be confirmed before a final scope is agreed.

Can fence or deck work be planned with another outdoor project?

Yes. Describe all of the work you have in mind so access, materials and the sequence can be reviewed together.

Can railing work be included in my deck project?

Yes. Include the railing location, length, current condition and requested changes in the project details. Review the deck and railing scope together before choosing materials or scheduling work.
